For this Vehicle Cameras Case Study, We spoke to long-time customer Dynes Motor Group about why they chose CameraMatics vehicle cameras for their fleet of vehicles. Adam Drury (General Manager), also explains what issues they were facing that led them to make this decision and the difference CameraMatics solution has made to their business.
“Thanks to the CameraMatics system we have experienced an overall improvement in how we handle claims and more importantly a reduction in the cost of payouts, both of which have delivered tangible benefits to our bottom-line in excess of the expenditure we made in the camera systems. But the factor that gives us real peace-of-mind is how key it has been in helping us handle and reduce the non-compliance issues in our workforce.”
Dynes is a 24-hour breakdown and repair specialist that provides essential vehicle services, for both commercial fleet operators and private motorists, including vehicle recovery, mobile tyre fitting and other maintenance and repair services. The company was motivated to install vehicle cameras after looking at its claims history and realising it could reduce its pay-out costs.
Important considerations for the system were reliability, remote access, location settings and driver style alerts. With the vehicles operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, it was important that the system was robust enough to be always reliable. “If there is an incident, we need that information so we can act promptly,” said Adam Drury, Group General Manager, Dynes Motor Group.
Dynes also needed a system that could be managed remotely, so that managers could log in from anywhere to access camera footage stored on the vehicle. Adam added, “We need to limit vehicle down time. With the CameraMatics system we can download the section of video we need without having to bring in the vehicle and we can start to take action straight away. Remote access is a massive bonus for us because our fleet runs 24/7 and we can’t keep our customers waiting.
“We can then put in place any remedial action we need to do – if it was caused by a training deficit or a vehicle type malfunction, we need to address that straight away”, Added Adam.
Importantly, the video footage is not restricted to the reviewing of incidents/accidents, but has also been instrumental for training purposes and reducing non-compliance of workers. Due to the high-risk nature of the business, drivers undergo thorough training and Dynes continues to monitor drivers intermittently to ensure that they are not putting themselves or the public at risk, especially during a roadside recovery.
“Safety is paramount for us. We periodically check the live camera systems against jobs on our record to ensure that workers carry out the recovery as we would expect them to.

Simon Murray, Co-Founder and Sales & Marketing Director at CameraMatics commented, “Dynes does a tough job in often difficult circumstances. We have worked closely with the Dynes team for a number of years now and are pleased to support them as they continue to make their fleet safer and continue their important work. Our CameraMatics solution will ensure that they not only
have adequate protection from a risk and compliance perspective, but can also effectively and quickly manage any incidents.”
By using our CameraMatics system efficiently, Dynes caught 66% more non-compliance issues, had an 86% reduction in re-offending non-compliance and a 72% reduction in erratic/unsafe driving behaviours. Ultimately this led to a 23% reduction in accident claims.
These incredible safety improvements resulted in CameraMatics & Dynes winning the Fleet Safety Partnership Award at the Brake Fleet Safety Awards in October 2018. This is further proof of the amazing benefits CameraMatics can offer for not just regular hauliers but for specialist fleets such as Dynes as well.
