Product Update: ADAS alerts – putting safety in the driver’s seat

Explore how Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) alerts can help fleets reduce risk, improve driver safety, and enhance visibility in real-time.

At CameraMatics, our number one priority is – and always will be – keeping all road users safe. We’re all about proactive prevention, helping fleets avoid accidents before they happen.

Our latest update introduces Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) — a smart, proactive way to support drivers, reduce road risk, and protect your operation from unnecessary claims and costs. ADAS alerts are built into our connected DVRs for our forward-facing cameras and GeniePro dashcam.

It’s another component of our comprehensive commercial vehicle safety systems, designed to help fleets operate smarter and safer. Let’s take a closer look.

What are ADAS alerts and how do they work?

Using a forward-facing camera, ADAS detects external risks — such as potential collisions, tailgating, or pedestrian hazards — and alerts the driver instantly. It works similarly to our Driver Monitoring System (DMS), which uses a driver-facing camera to identify internal risks like fatigue or distraction. While the cameras face opposite directions, both systems are designed to give drivers early warnings so they can react in time and avoid incidents.

Just like in modern passenger cars — when you’re too close to the vehicle in front and your car beeps to alert you — CameraMatics ADAS works the same way, but it’s built for the demands of commercial fleets.

When a risky manoeuvre is captured by the ADAS sensors, the system automatically uploads HD video, GPS data, and accelerometer information to the cloud for instant review in our Safety Centre — giving you the full context for both incident investigation and driver coaching.

Three ADAS alerts that matter most

Our system supports three key alert types that cover the highest-risk scenarios:

  • Forward collision alert – Triggered when a vehicle is closing in too quickly on traffic ahead. Giving drivers crucial time to slow down and avoid a potential rear-end collision.
  • Pedestrian alert – Alerts the driver when the vehicle is approaching a pedestrian at a speed or distance that poses a risk, helping prevent vulnerable road user incidents.
  • Tailgating alert – Triggered when a vehicle follows another too closely for more than 10 seconds, encouraging better spacing and safer driving habits.

All of this happens live in the vehicle. Drivers receive timely alerts in the cab, helping them make safer choices in the moment — without distraction or delay.

Seamless visibility for fleet managers

Just like our Driver Monitoring System alerts, ADAS events are fully integrated across the CameraMatics platform. That means you can view, filter, and analyse them right alongside the safety data you already manage — no extra tools or training required.

ADAS fleet management made simple, here’s how you can access the alerts in the platform:

  • Driving events dashboard widget – See a quick snapshot of ADAS alerts triggered in the last seven days, and compare activity week-on-week at a glance. ADAS Alerts - driving events dashboard widget - CameraMatics
  • Driving events dashboard – Dive deeper with filters that let you view specific alert types, timeframes, vehicles, or drivers — giving you actionable insight into risky patterns.Driving events dashboard - ADAS
  • Driving events page – View each alert in a simple card layout, including key info like driver name, vehicle, location, and time. Click into any alert for full media evidence — HD video, telematics, and more.Driver events page - ADAS alerts
  • Reports & exports – Generate customised Driving Events Reports filtered by ADAS alert type, and export them for auditing, internal reviews, or safety meetings.Reports and exports - ADAS alerts

But this isn’t about oversight. It’s about insight — giving you the tools to spot trends, understand risky behaviours, and prevent accidents from happening – building a proactive, long-term culture of safe driving.

24/7 access through SafeManager app

For fleet managers on the move, ADAS alerts are fully accessible in the SafeManager mobile app. From the Driving Events screen, you can view alerts, filter by event type, and tap into the media content — just as you would on desktop.

This means you can respond to safety concerns or review critical footage wherever you are, without waiting until you’re back at your desk.

ADAS alerts configured for your fleet

ADAS Alerts configures for your fleet

Because no two fleets are the same, ADAS alerts are fully configurable to suit your setup. They’re not enabled by default — and that’s intentional.

To ensure accurate detection, each system must be calibrated for the specific vehicle. Consider a large truck versus a light commercial vehicle. The size, shape, and mounting position of the forward-facing camera will vary significantly between these vehicles. Without proper calibration, the system might misjudge distances or fail to detect hazards accurately.

Once calibrated, ADAS alerts can be managed either directly on the device or remotely via the CameraMatics portal.

And as always, our support team is on hand to get everything up and running as quickly as possible.

Integrated coaching and driver engagement

Flagged ADAS alerts don’t just sit on the dashboard — like any other driving event, they should form an active part of your coaching strategy, supporting continuous improvement across your team.

When an ADAS event is flagged, it appears in both the Safety Centre for fleet managers and in the SafeDriver mobile app for the drivers themselves to review.

This creates a continuous cycle of accountability and improvement. Whether it’s a genuine mistake or a chance to recognise good driving, both managers and drivers are empowered to take action and improve performance.

You can also choose to include ADAS alerts in your driver scoring. Simply enable ADAS scoring in your account settings, assign different weights to each alert type, and customise how scores are calculated.

You can even tag alerts as “Good Driving” or “Misdemeanour” to ensure driver scores reflect real-world behaviour — not just raw data.

Proactive protection for safer operations

ADAS alerts are another major step in building safer commercial fleets and preventing injuries on the road to Vision Zero.

They support your drivers, strengthen your safety culture, and reduce the cost and complexity of managing risk. When combined with our Driver Monitoring System, 360-degree visibility, and telematics insights, you get a fully connected commercial vehicle safety system.
