Driver coaching from CameraMatics: helping promote safety and reduce accidents across your fleet

Driver coaching gives you the ability to share and comment on driving events across the organisation, and learn from them across teams and individuals in order to improve safety culture across the board. Check out the video below to see it in action.

The detail

Driving events are at the heart of CameraMatics. Our system detects more events than any other, from eyes closing to tailgating and everything in between. In many cases, in-cab alerts help prevent accidents in the moment. But in addition, every event is stored within the CameraMatics dashboard for further review.

That matters, because ultimately it’s not just about capturing driving events: it is what we do with them that counts. The purpose must always be to learn from these events and always be looking to improve our performance when it comes to safe and efficient operations.

Where driver coaching comes in

Driver Coaching makes that review process easy to manage, and enables data relating to events to be shared to any relevant individual, comments added, and events managed through a clear workflow in order to ensure that lessons are learned where necessary.

In short, a typical driver coaching process looks something like this:

  • An event or set of events from which lessons can be learned is identified by a fleet manager. Persistent tailgating, for example.
  • The fleet manager shares the relevant event with a depot manager responsible for a team of drivers, with a relevant comment, and marks the event as “Under review”
  • The depot manager receives an email alert and the event appears in their own CameraMatics instance, where all relevant data and footage is accessible at the touch of a button.
  • A short conversation with the driver in question is arranged, and the event status set to “Coaching scheduled”
  • The conversation takes place, the event is reviewed, and the event status is then set to “Closed/completed” with a comment reflecting the driver’s feedback

This is a sample flow: in practice driver coaching allows any type of event to be shared and reviewed in a variety of contexts, all with the goal of learning from experience and constantly optimising driving across the entire organisation.

Why it matters

Until now event review has been based solely on sharing directly with the relevant driver in the mobile app. Whilst helpful, this approach limits the opportunity for the whole organisation to learn and improve in a systematic manner.

Accidents cost money. Accidents involving commercial vehicles cost a lot of money. Reducing the number of accidents, and thus the total cost of accidents to our customers, is a key element of the CameraMatics promise. This feature release represents another step forward in making that happen. See how it works in the video below.

CameraMatics can help you turn every driving event into an opportunity to coach, improve safety, and reduce costs across your fleet
