Following a competitive tender process, waste management specialist Panda has selected CameraMatics to deliver its full suite of AI-powered camera support solutions, advanced telematics, compliance and asset management services across more than 1,200 commercial vehicles in the UK and Ireland.
Having supported 150 vehicles within Panda’s 600-strong Irish fleet for close to a decade, CameraMatics’ fleet safety technology was selected ahead of its competitors after demonstrating an acute understanding of the business and the complex risk environments associated with waste management. It will now use that expertise to consolidate the technology used across the entire Panda fleet – which includes refuse collection vehicles, skip loaders, heavy haulage assets and support vehicles – to provide a scalable, future-ready platform capable of enhancing safety, managing risk and improving operational performance.
A partnership that stands the test of time

Once the rollout is complete, Panda will replace multiple fleet technology providers with CameraMatics’ single platform, which combines AI-powered 360-degree cameras, telematics, compliance and asset tracking capabilities, to provide real-time visibility of vehicles and assets.

As Panda continues to grow, proactive risk reduction remains a key priority. Many of its vehicles operate on busy waste collection routes in complex urban environments, often with multiple operatives working alongside the driver, increasing the range of operational risks for both employees and other road users.
CameraMatics’ AI-powered 360-degree cameras eliminate blind spots and use real-time hazard detection to identify pedestrians, cyclists, vehicles and other vulnerable road users, triggering in-cab alerts to help drivers respond more effectively. The technology also supports compliance with regulations like the London Direct Vision Standard.
Panda’s fleet managers can subsequently review any footage as required, combining it with key telematics data to review vehicle performance. For example, highlighting instances of harsh driving, braking or speeding, with the system able to contextualise these events through its use of AI to determine if the action was taken to avoid a pedestrian or other hazard. In addition, the information captured can provide a reliable source of evidence for any incident investigations or disputed insurance claims.
