New: Improved HD video retrieval and smoother playback

Smooth, reliable video playback is critical for effective fleet management. CameraMatics updated clip-based retrieval approach improves how recorded footage is accessed and reviewed.

The CameraMatics Customer Portal now supports a new clip‑based approach to video retrieval, designed to further support drivers and significantly improve playback reliability — even in poor network conditions.

Previously, full HD footage was streamed directly from the vehicle each time it was played. Because mobile networks are optimised for download rather than upload, and connectivity can vary while vehicles are in motion, this could result in stuttering or interrupted playback.

To address this, video retrieval has been redesigned around a clip‑based workflow. When a user selects a camera channel, the system records the video as it is received and stores it locally in the browser. Once recording stops, the clip can be replayed smoothly, rewound, fast-forwarded, and reviewed without relying on ongoing streaming from the vehicle.

This update enables:

  • Smoother HD playback, even in low‑connectivity environments
  • Option to rewind and fast forward within recorded clips
  • Reliable video review without repeated re‑streaming

This improvement significantly enhances everyday video review in real‑world fleet conditions, where network quality can be unpredictable.
