At CameraMatics, a core focus is protecting our customers and the fleets they operate: protecting them from accidents, from theft, and from fraud. With the release of integrated asset trackers, we are delighted to extend that protection to any asset, across the business.
In short, if it moves (or even if it doesn’t), and you want to protect it: now you can. All within the same dashboard you use to manage your fleet today.
CameraMatics asset trackers enable you to track and locate anything that matters to you, at any time. You need never lose a valuable asset again.
How asset tracking works
GPS tracking is a standard feature in any telematics package. On that basis, you know where most of the vehicles in your fleet are at any given time. But what about other mobile assets, that might not have telematics installed?
That’s where CameraMatics asset tracking comes in. By installing a simple, discrete and rugged device, the solution enables you to track:
- Trailers and containers – independently of cabs
- High-value pallets and crates
- Assets such as plant and machinery
- Anything your organisation hires out to others (and wants to see returned)
- And a lot more, in fact anything you want to keep an eye on
The location of any tracked item is displayed in exactly the same map view as you currently use in CameraMatics, and you can drill into any asset in order to establish not just where it is now, but where it has been for the past 7 days.
Why asset tracking matters
In really simple terms, asset tracking ensures that you don’t lose anything that matters to your business, and that if theft or fraudulent use takes place, you have the information you need to take action.
It’s that simple.
To give one simple example of the scale of the problem it solves, construction companies, in the USA alone, are estimated to lose over one billion dollars’ worth of equipment every single year. And ‘lose’ isn’t always a euphemism here. In large organisations managing hundreds or thousands of moving parts, it’s always good to know precisely where any given asset happens to be.
On that same note, asset tracking minimises downtime on site and helps with the optimal use of assets. Being able to locate what you need – and the closest version of what you need, helps ensure things run smoothly. It’s not just about tracking down stolen goods.
More about CameraMatics asset tracking
Our asset tracking solution is designed to be low maintenance, discrete, and rugged. In other words, once you have attached the device to the relevant asset, you can go right ahead and forget about it until you need to track something down.
Everything has been designed to ensure that keeping track of what matters to you is as easy as possible:
- The device is small enough to fit on almost any asset, and be hidden from view (assuming that you want it to be)
- Batteries last for years, with battery level reported on the CameraMatics dashboard, so a device won’t go offline without you being aware
- Similarly, any other technical fault will also be highlighted in the dashboard: if a device stops transmitting, you will know about it
From a management and administration perspective, each device can be assigned (or re-assigned) to an asset, and assets themselves can be grouped in whatever way the organisation sees fit.
A specific asset, such as a trailer, can also be assigned to a vehicle: that means the two will be displayed as associated within the dashboard, and it will be immediately apparent if that connection has been broken.
Last but not least, all assets or groups of assets in CameraMatics can also be assigned to any geofences you create. In other words, if something leaves or enters an area it is not supposed to, you will know immediately thanks to our automated alerting system.
All in, asset management in CameraMatics extends the protection you associate with our full telematics system to everything your organisation cares about. If you’d like to learn more, talk to your CameraMatics rep or drop us a line at [email protected].
